Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher and the guidelines stated in the student’s IEP, provide a variety of support duties related to delivering a sound academic program and maintaining a healthy, safe, and supportive school environment for children with special needs. Special education paraprofessionals may be assigned one‑on‑one assignments or small group assignments depending on the nature of the student(s) disability and the educational setting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for implementing I.E.P. program and following specific behavior intervention program requirements for students with disabilities.
Willingness to be trained in First Aid/CPR and implement nonviolent verbal and physical interventions.
Help students with getting on and off the school bus.
Playground/lunchroom supervision.
Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Qualifications
Associate degree, 60 credits, or Paraprofessional examination
Ability to relate and communicate with children, teachers, parents, and other professionals.
May be required to facilitate medical needs of students.
People skills sufficient for prolonged and effective contact with students with disabilities.
Experience with Special Education Students.
Terms of Employment School year
Compensation
According to Paraprofessional Master Agreement
Close‑knit family atmosphere
10 sick days – 2 personal days per year
Various paid holidays
Insurance benefit 30 + hours/week
Longevity after 5 years of service
