Definition
Under general supervision from the school principal, the school teacher provides quality classroom instruction guided by the Arizona State Standards and creates an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for academic, intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. The teacher is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students and results in academic achievement in accordance with Salt River School’s policies and procedures.
Primary Job Functions
Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences; monitor and adjust as required.
Use formal and informal assessment to monitor student progress toward the school achievement goals.
Develop lesson plans using the Arizona State Standards and instructional materials to meet the needs of each student and ensure growth.
Provide individualized and small group instruction as appropriate to enhance the learning process.
Conduct instruction with clearly stated objectives.
Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, student-to-student discourse, lecture, and discovery to meet students’ varying needs.
Create an effective learning environment.
Integrate the use of educational technology in the classroom to support instruction.
Maintain a safe, organized, and high quality environment that facilitates learning and minimizes student disruptions.
Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development; provide appropriate and timely feedback on work.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development, as required by laws, board policies and school regulations.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents/guardians regarding students’ progress and students’ needs.
Identify students’ needs and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning needs.
Maintain professional effectiveness through in-service education activities provided by the Division and self-selected professional growth activities.
Collaborate and participate in a Professional Learning Community.
Supervise students in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Administer and monitor assessments in accordance with Division testing protocol.
Stay current with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant adjustments to instructional plans and learning activities.
Participate in faculty committees, meetings and the sponsorship of student activities.
Demonstrate ethical and professional practices in working with students, parents, colleagues, and student records.
Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Must hold current valid Arizona teaching certificate, with required endorsement(s) and/or approved area(s) for subject(s)/level(s) assigned.
Must be appropriately certified in accordance with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in content area and Arizona Department of Education laws and regulations.
At least one year of student teaching and/or approved internship.
Comprehensive knowledge of Arizona State Academic Standards.
Driving Requirement This job description does not require the incumbent to drive; however, any employee who chooses or is asked to drive an SRPMIC vehicle for work‑related community business must receive written annual authorization to do so. For clarification, work‑related community business includes driving to and from SRPMIC government sites and buildings.
Equivalency Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position will be considered.
Underfill Eligibility An enrolled Community Member who closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2‑19, Underfill.
Terms of Employment This position is treated as a full‑time exempt position scheduled for 40 hours per week.
Drug and Background Screening Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug test and extensive fingerprint and background check. Employee is subject to random drug testing and completion of a background check every five (5) years. Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
