Job Description AECOM invites you to join our Remediation team in Long Island, NY as an Environmental Technician. The role focuses on supporting remedial operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM) projects at client facilities and field sites. You will operate groundwater treatment and soil remediation systems, carry out media sampling, and communicate with project teams while working independently.
Responsibilities
Operate a range of remediation systems, including soil vapor extraction, sub‑slab depressurization, and groundwater pump‑and‑treat units.
Conduct routine fieldwork—groundwater, soil, and air sampling—under the supervision of field task leaders.
Sample various media: groundwater, soil, vapor, surface water, and sediment.
Use field tablets and computers to efficiently record and track environmental data.
Take and pass operator examinations to demonstrate system operation and maintenance proficiency.
Remotely monitor system performance during off‑site hours, performing at least one evening check and a weekend check.
Respond to specific alarm conditions outside of standard working hours.
Perform operation and maintenance tasks, as well as inspections of remediation systems.
Document all field activities, notes, and observations.
Oversee subcontractor activities and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Communicate effectively with the project team and stakeholders.
Work within defined scopes, schedules, and budgets while delivering quality work.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 2+ years of experience in operations, maintenance, and monitoring of treatment systems.
Ability to travel across Long Island, NY for fieldwork and site visits.
U.S. citizenship required due to project nature.
Completion of 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and an up‑to‑date 8‑hour refresher.
Basic computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, field tablet use).
Physical ability to work outdoors, lift 40‑50 lbs, use hand tools, and operate ladders in variable conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or trade certification.
Three years of related experience.
Aptitude for operating mechanical and electrical equipment.
Experience sampling groundwater, soil, and vapor.
First Aid/CPR certification.
Professional responsibility and adherence to industry standards.
Proficient technical writing and oral communication skills.
Strong work ethic and problem‑solving ability.
Additional Information
Night and weekend work may be required occasionally.
Applicants who receive an offer must pass a pre‑employment substance abuse test.
Positions with driving responsibilities require a Motor Vehicle Records check.
Background, medical, and drug screening will be required to obtain a client worksite security badge.
Compensation Hourly rate range: $25 – $30, based on education, qualifications, experience, and location.
