Helping Hands provides HOPE and CARE through personal, trauma-informed programs to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Our programs are Trauma-Informed, Data-Driven, and Person-Centered.
We take the time to learn each individual's story and help connect them to the appropriate local resources and services to meet their unique needs. We do not duplicate available services; instead, we build strong collaborative partnerships with local programs and foster connections between participants and our community partners.
Position Summary The right individual for this position has a passion for helping others, is nonjudgmental, and able to deal with difficult situations in positive and constructive ways. As a Driver with Helping Hands, you will transport passengers (participants and/or staff) within the Portland Metro Area.
Work Schedule:
Full-time, including early morning, evening, and weekend work. $18.90, full-time benefit eligible, Medical/Dental/Vision/401k/PTO.
Typical Duties Include
Drive designated route(s) approximately 4 times throughout shift
Maintain vehicles in clean external and internal condition
Maintain van charges throughout shift
Transport individuals
Keep accurate and up-to-date vehicle log, ensuring problems are reported to supervisor
Perform routine pre-trip safety inspections
Requirements & Qualifications
One year of driving work experience
Effective Communication & Customer Service Skills
Ability to remain calm and focused in stressful situations
Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
High school diploma or equivalent
Current driver's license with acceptable 3-year driver’s abstract
25+years of age to be covered under employer’s driver’s policy
Preferred
Familiarity with ADA lifts, devices, and transportation
Experience with Electric Vehicles
CPR/First Aid/AED training
Direct or Lived Experience with homelessness, addiction, and/or low-income populations.
Understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, chemical dependency, domestic violence, and sexual assault
Physical/Mental Requirements The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee, with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Hearing and vision adequate for interaction with participants, staff, and the general public
Work is performed indoors, outdoors and in a van, occasionally accompanied by moderate noise levels and exposure to scents.
Frequently required to sit in a seated or in a stationary position while driving or working at a desk
Frequently required to move about within the facility, indoors and outdoors, and in and out of an electric van
Frequently required to lift/push/pull luggage, bags and/or other misc items to load/unload van
