This position is designed to develop individuals who want to become DOT drivers but do not have the required license or tractor/trailer experience.

A primary requirement of this program is that the individual must obtain a CDL–Permit within two weeks of entering into the program. Upon successful completion of the driver training program, the trainee will be promoted to a DOT Route Service Associate.

Responsibilities

Learn to be proficient in performing delivery duties while maintaining a good safety record.

Demonstrate a sense of urgency while delivering product along assigned routes with multiple stops of varying difficulty.

Read customer invoices to determine items to be moved, gathered, distributed, and delivered.

Use electronic equipment such as Xata on‑board computer and handheld scanners.

Adhere to the rules governed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Maintain accuracy of delivered product with no damage due to mishandling.

Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.

Conduct safety inspection of the vehicle in compliance with DOT and FMCSR guidelines, checking fluid levels daily (gas, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes) to ensure vehicles are safe and working.

Report all mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.

Maintain Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports and Driver Hours of Service Logs in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Regulations.

Report delays, accidents, or other transportation situations to transportation management.

Become proficient with Smith Systems Defensive Driver Training.

Job Qualifications

Commitment to Ben E. Keith company principles and standards.

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing good customer service, including needs assessment and meeting quality standards for services.

Good communication skills.

Well organized and able to multi‑task assignments.

Willingness to learn new processes.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Good mathematical skills.

Proficient with a personal computer.

High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree).

Driver safety is important to Ben E. Keith. We use dash cameras that leverage artificial intelligence to recognize safe driving, capture safety events, and improve driver‑safety performance. The videos are also used to exonerate drivers in accidents. All drivers sign a driver consent form upon hire to confirm their understanding.
