The
Substitute Protestant Contemporary Musician (Keyboard/Guitar)
provides as‑needed contemporary worship music support for the Initial Entry Training (IET) Protestant consolidated service at Fort Jackson. This position serves as a backup resource to ensure continuity of worship services when the primary Protestant Contemporary Music Director (PCMD) is unavailable. Services are performed in accordance with contract requirements and chapel leadership coordination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities When scheduled, the Substitute Protestant Contemporary Musician will:
Lead contemporary worship music for the IET Protestant consolidated service by singing and playing keyboard and/or guitar.
Lead 1–6 contemporary worship songs during scheduled services.
Arrive 15 minutes prior to service start time and remain 15 minutes after for setup and recovery.
Prepare and provide digital worship media (e.g., Proclaim, PowerPoint, CCLI slides) for assigned services, coordinating with chapel leadership and submitting materials no later than three (3) duty days prior to the service.
Provide music support for special services, ceremonies, and rehearsals when requested and approved.
Maintain a professional, respectful demeanor appropriate to a military chapel environment.
Education and/or Experience Required:
Minimum 5 years of experience playing keyboard and/or guitar in contemporary worship settings at public worship services.
Demonstrated spiritual understanding of church music and experience supporting worship planning.
Ability to collaborate effectively with chapel leadership and worship teams.
Strong communication skills and professionalism in a military environment.
Preferred Skills:
Experience serving in military, chaplaincy, or structured worship program environments.
Familiarity with contemporary worship music trends and digital worship platforms.
Ability to adapt quickly to assigned services and rehearsal schedules.
Security and Onboarding Requirements Selected candidates must be able to meet installation access and training requirements, including:
Completion of AT Level I Awareness Training within required timelines.
Completion of iWATCH “See Something—Say Something” training and reporting in accordance with local guidance.
Completion of OPSEC Awareness Training initially and annually thereafter.
Successful background vetting and identity verification for Fort Jackson access.
Work Environment & Schedule
As‑needed, part‑time
substitute coverage.
Services are primarily
Sundays , with occasional special services or rehearsals.
On‑site at the Robert B. Solomon Center, Fort Jackson, SC.
Compensation
Per‑service, as‑needed pay , disclosed during scheduling or onboarding.
Payment is issued only for services rendered, in accordance with contract processes.
