POSITION SUMMARY:

The cook is responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of kitchen area. They manage all responsibilities associated with providing meals to clients and staff. They cook meals and inventory/maintain food storage room.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares and cooks meals as defined by weekly menus, under the direction of the Director of Food Services.

Performs or supervises the cleaning of all kitchen equipment and restocking of dry storage area when shipments are received.

Maintains inventory and use of cooking supply records as required by administrative offices and funding agencies.

Performs other cooking/kitchen duties as required by the Director of Food Services.

Ensures services delivered in line with the Nexus Mission and Values

Other duties may be assigned.

COMPETENCIES:

Basic understanding of institution cooking.

Fundamental cooking skills.

Working and practical knowledge of kitchen equipment and tools.

Proficient in reading recipes and cooking directions.

Able to lift boxes weighing at least 25 lbs.

Good verbal communication skills.

Ability to place food orders for future meals.

Understanding of HIPAA Compliance, and Employee/Client Confidentiality.

Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Experience in basic dietary needs and food preparation.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to read general business contracts.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
