Field Service Technician
CVEC is looking for a Field Service Technician in our Palmyra, VA office to perform daily oversight of all collections, service connect, disconnect, and reconnect functions, including scheduling of collection activities.
This position will also respond to and properly handle metering tampering and energy diversion. Connect, disconnect or transfer electric service to members. Verify meter readings as requested by service orders. Perform minor service activities on equipment rated at 240 Volts or below, including repairing or replacing parts inside a meter base, installing and removing disconnect collars, surge suppressors, and voltage recording equipment.
All activities will be performed in accordance with established Cooperative Safety Rules, policies, and guidelines.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Customer service experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Excellent oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational and record‑keeping skills.
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Ability to deal with loose, aggressive dogs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to calculate figures and transcribe mathematical numbers.
Knowledge of basic electrical concepts.
Have mechanical aptitude.
Must have basic computer skills.
Must have ability to read and comprehend maps.
Other Requirements
Must be available for planned or emergency overtime as required.
Certificates, Licences & Registrations
Must have a valid Virginia Drivers License.
Physical Demands & Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle materials and tools, reach with hands and arms, talk and listen. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The job requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
