What You’ll Do
You will install and repair aerial telecommunications cable
You will safely use hand tools and equipment such as wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, saws, lashers, climbing hooks, and more
You will safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, excavators, and more
You will set up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriers
You will flag traffic when required
You will understand separation and clearance regulations
You will safely work aloft using climbing hooks and ladders
You will maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures and policies.
What You’ll Need
To be 18 years of age or older
Authorization to work in the United States for this company
High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening
Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed
May be required to work over‑time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or be on‑call as work is needed to ensure work is completed
May include working nights and holidays as needed
May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements
Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
Additional Qualifications
Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry
Knowledge of established aerial cable installation procedures and techniques
Can climb telephone poles and work in a bucket truck and work aloft and climb poles up to 40 ft
Can perform all duties in telecommunications construction (such as pole transfers, maintenance builds, new build, cable installation, over lash, and strand construction)
Can lift/carry 50 lb regularly and up to 75 lb as needed with or without assistance
Must know the color code system for cable pairs or be willing to learn
Ability to work in confined spaces
Possesses strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work with internal and external customers
Must have strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with product vendors and customers
Physical & Safety Requirements And The Working Environment
The noise level in the work environment is moderate
Employees are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include extreme heat and cold, inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet, icy roads and fog
Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens
Employees may be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus near and/or far as needed
Pay Range The Lineman I Telecom hourly wage range is $25.00 – $30.00 depending on experience.
