The Housekeeper assists the department in providing quality service that positively impacts patient stay at our facility. Duties include sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, wiping and cleaning with approved chemicals in all areas of the hospital. Responsibilities also cover collection of infectious waste, disposal of non-infectious waste, linen management and removal of soiled linens, all in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans Behavioral Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement Standards.
Essential Functions
Cleans and sanitizes all areas of the facility in accordance with established policies.
Cleans and disinfects patients' rooms and baths daily.
Performs terminal cleaning after transfer or discharges 100% of the time.
Cleans, empties, dusts, sanitizes, nursing stations, non-patient care areas, laundry room, restrooms, sitting rooms and dining rooms daily.
Dusts and mops all hard floors; buffs, strips, waxes as needed for hard floors; shampoos carpets when needed; cleans drapes.
Follows infection control procedures for isolation cleaning 100% of the time; uses universal precautions 100% of the time.
Collects and distributes clean linen and contains soiled linen in proper containers; follows procedures for disposal of biohazard waste and other waste; follows directions for use of cleaning chemicals.
Cleans, maintains and monitors equipment in good condition at all times; monitors, orders and uses linen in a cost‑effective manner.
Reports broken, defective patient care/room equipment; completes work request for repairs.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements Must be able to read and write in order to read labels and containers of chemicals used, order supplies, complete inventories. High school graduate preferred. Minimum of six months previous hospital housekeeping or janitorial or a minimum of one-year experience related to this position.
Qualifications / Skills Good communication skills needed. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide housekeeping services appropriate to any age‑related disability needs of the patients served. Ability and willingness to supervise and work cooperatively with others. Considerable, initiative and judgment involved leading housekeeping in providing an aseptically clean environment. A working knowledge of Infection Control, Safety Principles, and share training. Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de‑escalation program.
