Overview Plan and implement a variety of recreational activities, leisure services, enrichment activities, intramurals, incentive programs, special events, holiday activities, school vacation activities, and facilitate the use of incentive dorms/motivational areas. Maintain an inventory of equipment and recreational needs. Engage in healthy relationships and set boundaries with both staff and youth. Work cooperatively with Juvenile Correctional Officers (JCOs) to provide safe, supervised engagement during activities and incorporate staff feedback into program design.
Responsibilities
Plan and implement special events, holiday activities, school vacation activities, intramurals, enrichment activities, incentive programs, and manage incentive dorms/motivational areas.
Support youth programming on the dorm by providing materials, leading activities, and meeting specialized needs of self‑contained programs.
Document recreational activities and maintain required records, files, and forms accurately and timely.
Collaborate with direct care staff and provide equipment when recreation staff are unavailable.
Provide ongoing mentoring and coaching to JCOs when needed; assist co‑workers.
Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet campus needs.
Practice self‑regulation skills, remain calm during stress and crisis situations.
Maintain an inventory of equipment, remove faulty items immediately, and report hazards to supervisors.
Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with agency safety policies.
Qualifications Applicants must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check and meet additional requirements listed under Minimum Qualifications.
Career Ladder Promotion Opportunity The position is in the approved TJJD career ladder for Juvenile Correctional Officers. Personnel are entitled to career‑ladder salary adjustments upon meeting eligibility criteria and advancing based on experience and performance.
Pre‑Service Training Academy Requirement Newly hired or rehired JCOs separated for more than 18 months must attend the pre‑service training academy and complete on‑the‑job training full‑time. Those returning within 18 months are exempt and placed in full‑time status upon employment.
