Description Maintain a clean and safe environment for students, staff and the community. Responsible for the cleanliness of assigned building and entrance grounds; cooperate in organizing and coordinating daily work schedules, remove snow and ice from entrance ways and walks around the building. Supervise custodial staff assigned to each building. Responsible for performing various minor maintenance tasks as necessary and maintain record and inventory.
Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Four years related experience

Essential Functions
Ensure safety of students
Act as a liaison between custodians and the supervisor
Assist in making custodial assignments for extra duty events (athletic, extracurricular, facility rentals)
Monitor cleanliness of building and assist the building principals and custodial director with the responsibility of evaluating the effectiveness of other custodians in building, including the night crew
Assist custodial director in developing summer maintenance lists, painting needs, and summer cleaning plan
Assist supervisor in coordinating holiday and weekend building check list as needed
Ensure all classrooms are locked (Night custodian)
Schedule cleaning to meet needs of building and complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner
Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails, and pencil sharpeners
Remove cobwebs and clean windows
Polish furniture and woodwork
Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials
Transport all necessary school custodial supplies
Load and unload trucks as needed
Ensure the care, condition, appearance, repair or replacement of all physical equipment, building, facilities, and grounds
Clean and sanitize assigned school, e.g., restrooms, classrooms, spills, etc.
Help with setup and cleanup for various school activities
Use, measure and relabel chemicals
Clean carpets
Wash all furniture, walls, halls, windows, window seals, and doors
Disinfect water fountains and water coolers
Remove writing on walls, dry erase boards, and other writing areas
Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
Dispose of debris and maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner
Report to building administration and or custodial director any damaged, broken, loose fixtures and/or equipment
Adjust to various locations and work requirements as needed, perform other duties as assigned by the building administration and custodial director
Perform minor repairs as appropriate
Request needed equipment, materials and supplies
Perform seasonal duties such as salting and snow removal, litter removal, and other duties as director by the building administration and custodial director
Maintain a clean, safe and neat boiler room
Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and bathroom tissue in all school building restrooms
Maintain emergency exit and security lights
Maintain synchronized clock system
Check boiler room nightly for orderliness, safety, etc.
Secure building nightly
Repair equipment and buildings as needed
Conduct periodical inspections of the building
Attend meetings and in-services as required
Maintain a daily work routine as established by the building administration and custodial director to adequately service the buildings, grounds, and personnel
Check building to assure maximum security (walking building after school hours and secures doors, windows, security gates and other entrances)
Turning off and on lights as needed
Sweep, clean, mop, wash, wax, dust, wipe, scrub, strip, seal and vacuum all surfaces to maintain cleanliness throughout building and grounds
Keep work and storage areas neat and orderly
Tour building periodically and remain alert for dangerous, hazardous conditions, or items in need of maintenance
Set up equipment and furniture for special events and use of building for school and community functions
Maintain records as requested by the building administration and custodial director
Clean hallway glass display cases
Clean school building lounges
Check the heating and cooling systems
Assist in accurate inventory and control and assist in ordering all custodial equipment, materials and supplies
Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials
Clean and sanitize restrooms
Complete paperwork as required by supervisor
Promote good safety practices and procedures
Pass on specific oral and/or written instructions for assignments to other custodial employees
Maintain records and complete reports
Participate in custodial and minor maintenance of buildings
Share responsibility for the proper cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities
Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings

Raise the flag every school morning as required or needed
Set up barricaded and cones to protect students from traffic

Maintain building security system ensures building is secure and locked
Set up and clean tables and chairs for eating purposes and other activities
Climb and remain stable at heights up to 25 feet
Replace light bulbs in fixtures as needed (up to 25 feet)
Unclog sinks toilets as needed using chemical and plungers
Maintain accurate inventory of all custodial equipment, materials and supplies
Perform routine maintenance as required
Assist with repairs as assigned
Assist in the control of all custodial tools and supplies
Assist work crews on assigned tasks and be a team player
Perform yearly inventory of work area, supplies and equipment
Coordinate activities with PTO’s, booster groups and students for special activities
