Head Teacher - Universal Pre‑K / Universal 3K Classroom (Ridgewood YMCA) Position: Full‑time, Regular Salary: $66,300 annually Location: Ridgewood YMCA, Queens, NY
Key Responsibilities
Ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
Plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate lessons and activities in literacy, arts, math, cooking, science, and outdoor/indoor recreation.
Develop classroom centers that respond to children’s interests and support the ongoing curriculum.
Facilitate student assessments and work sampling.
Maintain accurate program documentation, including attendance, incident reports, and growth forms.
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians in written and verbal formats, and encourage participation in special events and volunteer opportunities.
Supervise Assistant Teachers, Early Childhood Specialists, and Volunteers, fostering a supportive team environment.
Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
Adhere to all YMCA, Department of Health, and Department of Education guidelines and participate in meetings, training sessions, and special events.
Desired Skills & Experience
Three (3) years of experience working with early childhood-aged children in a group setting.
Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfort working with diverse youth and adults.
Level I: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood and a DOH approved study plan to achieve a Teaching license within 12 months.
Level II: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and a valid teaching license for early childhood grades.
Level III: Master’s degree in Early Childhood and a valid teaching license for early childhood grades.
