Responsibilities

Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching‑related activities.

Manage the classroom/laboratory.

Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.

Manage equipment, supplies and materials.

Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.

Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.

Attend departmental and institutional meetings.

Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.

Support student organizations and activities.

Develop relationships with business and industry.

Complete program evaluation and follow‑up.

Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education Associate degree or higher in any field or educational equivalency.

Educational Equivalency: Occupational experience combined with education and training totaling seven years or 14,000 hours.

Occupational Experience Must have a minimum of 5 years of full‑time or equivalent (10,000 hours) experience as a licensed cosmetologist.

Additional Requirements

At least 3 years of related work experience in the last 5 years, or

Two years of teaching barbering or cosmetology coursework at the post‑secondary level within the last 5 years at an accredited school of Barbering and/or Cosmetology.

State of Wisconsin Barbering Instructor Certificate or State of Wisconsin Cosmetology Instructor Certificate.

Must have a valid State of Wisconsin Barber or Cosmetologist license.

Emerging Technologies – Experience with emerging technologies (e.g., social networking applications)

Interview As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare a teaching demonstration lasting 5–10 minutes, which may be conducted in‑person or online.

Application Materials Transcripts for all degrees earned from an accredited institution. Transcripts must show the degree awarded/conferred and unofficial transcripts are acceptable. A complete application must include personal information, educational background, and comprehensive work experience (specific job positions, duties performed, dates of employment, and any relevant licenses or certifications). Candidates may be required to attach copies of licenses, transcripts or certifications.

Salary The starting hourly wage for all part‑time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part‑time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time, which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non‑negotiable.

Benefits

Health Insurance – Choice of two medical insurance plans: UMR High‑Level PPO or UMR Low‑Level PPO; all plans include prescription drug benefits at no additional cost.

Dental Insurance – Traditional group plan through Delta Dental; $2,500 annual maximum for covered persons; covers preventive, routine, restoration, and orthodontics for dependents up to age 19.

Group Term Life Insurance – $15,000 basic coverage, doubled in the event of accidental death.

Retirement Benefits – For employees >12 months and meeting minimum hours, eligible for the WRS pension system; full employer contribution (6.9%) paid by the college.

Flexible Spending Plans – Eligible employees may participate in Health Care and Dependent Care accounts administered through UMR.

Sick Leave – Earned based on one times the weekly workload per semester (maximum 640 hours). Vacations and paid holidays are available per position, but not for instructors.
