Job Summary This position requires the ability to drive a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). The driver may load and unload the vehicle as required and must have a commercial driver’s license.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
Greets customers with respect and courtesy.
Keeps up to date with the product inventory and its functionality.
Asks questions and provides relevant information to the customers, listing potential orders and providing excellent customer service.
Inspects vehicle to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, including the completion of pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections.
Follows appropriate safety procedures for transporting goods including the inspection of loads to ensure that cargo is secure.
Secures cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
Reads and interprets maps to determine vehicle routes.
Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle.
Obtains receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collects payment for services when required.
Checks all load‑related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Collects delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
Operates equipment such as truck cab computer, cellular phones, driver cameras, GPS equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors or other drivers.
Loads or unloads trucks or helps others with loading or unloading, using loading‑related equipment or other equipment as necessary.
Maintains proficiency in all organizational safe working policies and practices.
Performs other driver‑related duties as assigned.
Adheres to company policies and work requirements.
Required Skills/Abilities
The ability to read, write, understand, and relay written and verbal instructions.
Ability to operate available equipment, such as calculators or scanners.
Basic mathematical skills, as needed to make change and give refunds.
Knowledgeable about company’s products and services, and customer‑related policies.
Must have a class “A” commercial driver’s license and required endorsements for the position.
Education And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of on‑the‑job training.
Two years of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be in adequate physical condition to perform requirements such as mental, physical and manual dexterity, hand/grip strength, depth perception and any other physical attributes that enable the employee to perform the job safely according to all Company, Local, State, and Federal regulations and requirements.
Ability to lift/carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
Ability to push/pull up to 75 pounds regularly.
Must wear prescribed personal protective equipment when handling material or operating equipment.
Other Requirements
Successfully pass a DOT drug test as requested, a DOT physical capacity assessment, a background and motor vehicle check.
Must maintain a valid commercial driver’s license and driving record that meets the organization’s safe driving standards.
