Responsibilities This person is responsible for the safety of children at the beginning and ending of the school day as they arrive and depart the school facility. Directs traffic and assists children crossing the streets. Duty hours are approximately one hour in the early morning and one hour in the afternoon, or until all the children have entered or departed the facility. The preferred applicant will have some training in traffic control and training related to school age children. Person hired will receive a minimum of 4 hours training in traffic control.
Patrols street crossings and school entrances during hours when children are going to and coming from school
Directs the actions of children and traffic
Escorts children across the street
Records license numbers of vehicles disregarding the school zone speed limit
Places and removes caution signs and cones
Cautions drivers of speeding vehicles by use of whistle and/or hand signals
Qualifications Minimum age of 21. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must possess a valid Class C driver's license. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or other serious crime and must undergo a thorough background investigation.
Physical Demands The work requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities. The work requires standing for long periods of time. Work is primarily performed while standing and walking.
Safety Sensitive This position has been identified as safety-sensitive. The employee in this position will be part of a random drug testing pool. The methodology for choosing the random test subjects is handled by an outside, impartial, third party vendor.
Work Environment Work is performed outside where the employee may be exposed to cold or inclement weather.
