Job Description Under direct supervision, responsible for supporting Officers with the enforcement of institute, state and federal laws and regulations in the protection of life and property in service to the institution's community.
Schedule Shift work – approximate schedules:
10 hour shifts with 3 consecutive days off (5am-3:00pm, 6:30am-4:30pm, 1:00pm-11:00pm, 7:00pm-5:00am)
8 hour shifts with 2 consecutive days off (5am-1:00pm, 1:00pm-9:00pm, 9:00pm-5:00am)
Responsibilities
Operates emergency telephones, two-way radios, telecommunications/computer terminal equipment, closed circuit television, remote control cameras, alarm and security systems.
Activates emergency procedures for fire evacuations or similar emergencies.
Receives and records information/requests related to police services.
Dispatches officers and notifies command/supervisors and administrative personnel of incidents.
Prioritizes and assigns emergency calls for services.
Obtains, inputs, and receives data related to police activities such as criminal history, warrants and vehicle registration.
Operates specialized communications networking equipment and computer terminals to access confidential and restricted law enforcement information (TLETS).
Relays information from field officers requesting backup and support services to include emergency medical services, and rescue and fire equipment.
Maintains manual/computerized logs and prepares complaint control cards and reports.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to react calmly, quickly and decisively in emergency situations to obtain, summarize and relay information.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments while working under stressful conditions.
Ability to speak concisely and distinctly.
Demonstrated human relations skills.
Ability to operate specialized communications networking equipment and computer terminals to access confidential and restricted law enforcement information (TLETS).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Education
High school diploma or GED is required.
Licenses & Certifications
After employment, successful completion of the Basic Telecommunication Certification course and a minimum of 20 hours of training for a Police Telecommunication Operator as mandated by TCOLE is required.
Required Skills One (1) year related experience is preferred.
