Middle School Humanities Teacher

We are seeking a reflective and student-centered Middle School Humanities Teacher to join our school community. This role is ideal for educators who are passionate about literacy, critical thinking, historical analysis, and meaningful discourse. The Humanities Teacher will create an engaging classroom environment that builds strong readers, writers, and thinkers.
This position does not specify a grade level or individual humanities discipline, allowing flexibility based on school needs and teacher expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned humanities instruction
Develop lessons that strengthen reading, writing, discussion, and analytical skills
Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students with IEPs and English Language Learners
Use data to guide instruction and provide targeted academic support
Implement curriculum with fidelity while adapting lessons to meet student needs
Classroom Culture & Management
Create a structured, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment
Uphold school-wide behavior and culture expectations
Build strong relationships with students through consistency and care
Foster student voice, identity, and engagement
Assessment & Data
Design and administer formative and summative assessments
Track and analyze student performance data
Participate in data meetings and intervention planning
Communicate student progress clearly with families and school leadership
Collaboration & Professional Growth
Collaborate with grade-level and humanities team members
Participate in coaching, feedback cycles, and professional development
Support school-wide initiatives and events
Maintain clear, professional communication with families and colleagues
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree (required)
Valid New York State teaching certification or eligibility to pursue certification
Strong humanities content knowledgeCommitment to educational equity and culturally responsive teaching
Strong classroom management and instructional skills
Preferred
Master’s degree in education or related field
At least 2 years of middle school teaching experience
Experience in urban or charter school environments
Familiarity with data-driven instruction and literacy development
