The Heavy-Duty Rotator Driver is responsible for operating a specialized heavy-duty rotator tow truck to recover and transport large commercial vehicles, equipment, and other heavy loads. This role requires advanced driving skills, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to perform complex recovery operations safely and efficiently. The driver ensures compliance with all safety regulations, provides exceptional customer service, and maintains the rotator equipment in top working condition.
Job Responsibilities
Report to work on time, in uniform, and ready for duty each scheduled day
Notify the Dispatcher when available for assignments
Complete daily vehicle inspection reports and report mechanical issues immediately
Wear required safety equipment at all times during work hours
Maintain truck cleanliness inside and out; wash three times per week
Inspect and maintain tools (chains, straps, cables) for safety and functionality
Check fuel and fluid levels at the beginning and end of each shift
Communicate effectively with Dispatch and comply with all DOT and company regulations
Accurately complete manifests and tow slip as required by company, local, and state agencies
Perform towing, recovery, and transport duties, including interstate travel
Follow procedures for removing drive shafts and axles
Report incidents promptly to Dispatch or Terminal Management
Maintain respectful communication with dispatchers, co-workers, and customers
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education, And Experience
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Minimum 2 years of heavy hauling or commercial driving experience
Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and driving record review
Proficient in operating electric lifts, hand trucks, and pallet jacks
Eligible to obtain TWIC card, port passes, and PVDL license
Flexible schedule, including availability for weekends, holidays, and overtime
Strong customer service and communication skills
Basic mechanical aptitude and tool usage
Proficient in English (spoken and written)
Physical Requirements This position requires frequent lifting, crawling, pulling, bending, reaching, and climbing. Candidates must have significant physical strength and stamina, with the ability to lift and pull at least 50 lbs. Good hearing and vision are essential.
