Security Officer – Security Department – Mount Sinai West (Part Time, Nights/Weekends)

Description Patrols and secures hospital property, employees, patients and visitors. Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.

Responsibilities

Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.

Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises; confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.

Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.

Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel and visitors.

Participate in investigations; maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.

Secure and/or unlock offices and facilities as required.

Secure patient valuables or lost and found articles; maintain logs of items received.

Maintain established hospital and department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.

Maintain department supplies and equipment in working order; requisition supplies and equipment as needed or inform supervisor of needed equipment.

Use hospital vehicles in the event of an emergency to secure emergency supplies of life‑saving equipment outside the institution.

Provide restraints of psychiatric patients as needed; escort personnel to parking lots and hospital buildings.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

A minimum of one year experience as a security officer in an institutional setting or in a law‑enforcement setting. Relevant military experience may be considered in lieu of this requirement.

New York State Security Guard certification.

Compensation $25.25 – $27.95 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The range does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other compensation or benefits.
