Join YMCA of the Suncoast as a Youth Development Specialist in the East Hernando School Age Programs. This role supports the YMCA’s mission by providing enriching programs for children, building relationships with families, and fostering a safe community environment.
Location:
YMCA of the Suncoast – East Hernando School Age Programs.
Pay:
$15.45/hr with potential incentives.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 6:30 am–9:30 am and 2:30 pm–6:00 pm.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise a designated group of children, ensuring their safety.
Maintain accurate attendance records and document absences, injuries, and incidents.
Use positive reinforcement and disciplinary protocols to manage behavior.
Facilitate purposeful programming that supports academic growth and enrichment.
Build relationships and foster a sense of belonging among children, parents, volunteers, staff, and school personnel.
Maintain a nurturing, organized, and secure environment.
Promote a welcoming culture, demonstrating SMART behavior as a role model.
Educate members about YMCA services and actively connect them with offerings.
Support strategic initiatives: volunteerism, philanthropy, health goals, and meaningful youth programs.
Position Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (college degree in a child‑related field preferred).
Experience working with children preferred.
Must complete required training within specified timeframes (e.g., Principles of Youth Development, S.A.F.E. training).
CPR/AED, First Aid, Lifeguard, and Listen First certification preferred.
Physical: ability to stand, remain outdoors, lift 50 lbs, and facilitate group activities.
Mental: alertness and ability to process and follow directions.
Skills: supervise and instruct large groups; knowledge of children’s programming and sports preferred.
All candidates must complete mandated trainings within 30‑12 months after hire.
