School Kitchen Manager - Cascadia Elementary Seattle Public Schools A key position responsible for preparing and serving high‑quality meals in a bulk satellite kitchen, ensuring compliance with nutritional guidelines, food safety, and school district regulations. Overview of Position

Under the general direction of the Child Nutrition Services Director or designee, the manager oversees heating, serving, and quality control of meals to promote healthy eating among students. Essential Functions

Prepare and serve attractive, nutritious, cost‑effective meals following menu planners and meeting district requirements. Ensure student helpers and staff comply with proper food handling techniques and sanitation procedures. Develop, prepare, and post work schedules and serving area diagrams for program continuity. Maintain accurate records and complete reports (meal counts, cash counts, tickets, menu planners, orders, payroll, inventory) in accordance with district procedures. Schedule and oversee cleaning of kitchen, storeroom, and equipment; report malfunctions to maintain safe working conditions. Order appropriate number of meals from the central kitchen and adjust counts to utilize all food ordered. Maintain appropriate stock of food and supplies; rotate and reorder as needed. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. Assist school staff in promoting proper nutrition. Respond to suggestions, complaints, and requests from building staff and students. Report all accidents promptly to the Child Nutrition Services office. Train and supervise staff, conduct performance evaluations. Train, monitor, and evaluate student workers, substitutes, and assigned staff. Promote Child Nutrition Services programs to increase meal participation. Check and secure the kitchen and dining area at the end of each shift. Perform related duties as assigned. Working Conditions

Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods, lifting up to 25 lbs, and handling, pushing, stooping, and reaching tasks. Flexibility and adaptability are essential due to frequent interruptions and repetitive tasks. Must communicate effectively in challenging situations, exhibit strong listening skills, and maintain normal vision. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Food preparation techniques and procedures. Food safety and sanitation. Basic math and basic computer operation. Modern methods of food preparation, including recipe adjustment. Skills

Oral and written English communication. Teamwork. Abilities

Perform simple mathematical calculations. Follow instructions and apply fundamental food preparation techniques. Learn and enforce U.S. Department of Agriculture, State, and District requirements for school lunch programs. Operate and adjust all types of commercial kitchen equipment. Maintain good working relationships with a variety of employees. Work under supervision. Education & Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Licenses and Special Requirements

Valid WA Food Handler’s Permit. Additional Requirements

Knowledge of USDA school meal patterns and nutritional requirements. Ability to accurately complete required records for USDA, State, and District. Initiative to analyze situations and recommend effective solutions to the Child Nutrition Services office. Audit and reconcile inventory and financial records. Provide direction to assigned staff. Knowledgeable of basic food handling, preparation techniques, safe practices, and use of kitchen tools and equipment. Benefits
