POSITION SUMMARY The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is seeking positive role models who are caring, outgoing, creative, love to have fun, and want to make a positive impact in the lives of youth in our arts programs. The primary responsibility of an Arts Aide is to assist with the supervision and engagement of kids to ensure their safety and fun while participating in arts classes in schools, community centers, and at YMCAs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serve as a role model for all youth participating in arts classes by displaying exemplary behavior at all times.

Be willing to dress up, save the world, sing a song, and lose the game when needed.

Ensure a safe and nurturing environment, attending to the needs of students at all times.

Be welcoming to all students and other staff.

Consciously create a climate in class to foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.

Assist a teaching artist in the supervision of participants.

Attend all staff meetings and trainings.

Following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical situations and behavior management, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Work with the teaching artist to report all incidents to the supervisor and complete the necessary reporting forms.

Maintain the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials. Assist in the proper storage and set‑up of program materials and supplies.

Will be available through the final day of summer programming.

This job description may not be all‑inclusive, and the employee is expected to perform all other duties as assigned by direct management.

QUALIFICATIONS

At least 18 years of age.

Experience working with youth preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Meets the requirements set forth by the state‑licensing agency. Complete YMCA training as required.

Must complete successful background screening and drug test for YMCA and all other off‑site screenings for partnering organizations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children.

Ability to carry and transport bins of art supplies.
