Position Summary The Resident Assistant, reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, supports residents in maintaining dignity, independence, and overall quality of life through personal care assistance, companionship, and encouragement in daily activities. This role promotes physical, emotional, and social wellbeing, collaborates with the care team to monitor health status, supports individualized care plans, and ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment.
Essential Functions
Assist and direct residents with personal care needs, including grooming, hygiene, dressing, and nutrition.
Respond to signal lights, bells, and intercom systems to determine residents’ needs proactively.
Take and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration) and track food and fluid intake and output as directed.
Transport residents and assist with walking, turning, or repositioning alone or with assistance.
Change bed linens, run errands, direct visitors, and answer telephone calls.
Assist with laundry and housekeeping duties.
Guide residents to and from the dining room and assist with meals as needed.
Encourage resident participation in activities.
Listen to residents’ concerns, report observations to the care team promptly.
Promote residents’ physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing, striving to return them to maximum independence where possible.
Understand residents’ Advance Directives and follow their wishes.
Ensure effective communication with residents’ families regarding care plans.
Work well with others, take direction from management, and intervene in conflict resolution as needed.
Complete any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of experience as a resident assistant in a senior living community or healthcare setting preferred.
CPR or BLS certification preferred.
Proficiency with common digital tools and applications (Microsoft Office, web‑based platforms, electronic health record systems, HR systems).
Working Conditions
Position requires standing, walking, and movement throughout the community for extended periods.
May need to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance during duties.
Requires effective communication and interpretation of written information.
May lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance.
Must follow infection prevention and control protocols, including PPE use when required.
Participates in team activities that foster teamwork, unity, and morale.
Stays current on training and ongoing education, pursuing self‑improvement and continuous learning.
