Job Summary Applies basic and some advanced technical skills and knowledge to analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate shop tools to fabricate and repair epoxy lay‑up tooling, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, fabricating plaster casts and gauges.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
Fabricates complete alignment and assembly jigs, templates, and fixtures and other production tooling such as high temperature laminated fixtures, plaster casts, plaster mockups from master bond jigs and other information, that are simple to moderately complex requiring some skill and experience to determine plans and action from standard procedural alternatives.
Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
Sets up and operates shop tools such as lathes, milling machine and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product. Examines standard or previously used tools, and jigs and fixtures.
Uses various epoxy resin systems in order to fabricate or repair high temperature laminated fixtures. Makes plaster casts from any fixture furnished and plaster mockups or sample parts. Maintains contour and dimensional requirements of form tools and fixtures.
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment.
Minimum Qualifications Education Requirements Other. No formal education required. If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.
Experience Requirements 2‑4 year(s) related experience.
Skills and Competencies
Reads blueprints and follows all work instructions, as well as, properly documents work performed.
Competently uses close tolerance measuring tools such as scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and high gauges and hand tools such as drill motors and die grinders.
Operates machines such as universal milling machines, lathes and saws.
Interprets drawings and diagrams that do not contain detailed information of all operations.
Fabricates tooling for the repair of components.
Previous experience in performing jig and fixture or plastic laminate fabrication is desired.
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required dependent upon driving duties assigned.
Physical Requirements Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

May need additional assistance for more complex tasks.
