Primary Purpose: Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard; installs doors, frames, and door hardware using hand tools and power tools, conforming to local building codes.
Responsibilities
Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine required material and dimensions.
Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
Prepares layout using rule, framing square, and calipers.
Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials using pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes.
Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s level.
Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring.
Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
Covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture.
Applies shock-absorbing and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
Fits and installs pre-fabricated window frames, doors, and door hardware.
Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
Qualifications
High school diploma.
Three (3) years commercial construction experience.
Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
Plan work and select proper tools.
Perform a variety of duties which may change often.
Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked.
Physically, workers must be able to: climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders; lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs.; reach for, handle, and manipulate objects and materials; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, and see well (either naturally or with correction).
