Overview: The Machinist position is responsible for the set‑up and operation of various types of conventional and CNC machine shop equipment, including manual lathes, manual mills, CNC machining centers, Cylindrical Grinders, etc., to produce complex, tight‑tolerance products. The individual will actively participate in documentation creation and review, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and will advise on equipment selection, set‑up/operation, and maintenance. The incumbent must be able to multi‑task and perform various machine‑shop related activities, complying with all company requirements, with little supervision.

Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities

Manufacture production and tooling parts using a variety of tools, equipment, and materials as required

Set‑up and operate machine shop equipment in an effective, efficient, safe and consistent manner

Effectively perform component/material inspections using appropriate measuring equipment/instruments. Provide guidance on in‑process/final inspection requirements, methods, and tools.

Competent in measuring parts with precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, vision systems, etc.

Interpret various types of graphs and data used in problem solving, SPC, monitoring performance metrics, etc.

Coordinate, execute, document, and bring machine‑shop activities to closure through effective interaction with other departments within the organization

Generate work instructions, set‑up sheets, programs, etc. for machining activities

Read, interpret, and advise about manufacturability on documents (blueprints/technical drawings, tolerances, GD&T, operation/tool/set‑up sheets, routers, procedures, ECN's, etc.) to produce conforming product on a timely basis

Set‑up and operate CNC and manual machine shop equipment in an effective, efficient, safe and consistent manner to support customer requirements, with little to no supervision

Review documentation and verify methods, procedures, equipment, and tooling can produce conforming product safely and efficiently

Train and mentor others in machining processes for production products

Communicate issues and recommendations to the appropriate personnel

Perform troubleshooting activities to resolve issues and provide improvement recommendations

Define and perform routine maintenance of equipment

Additional Duties / Responsibilities

Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals internal and external to Marotta

Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal system requirements

Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external

Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc., and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals

Lead training of personnel to perform required technical tasks in the machining discipline

Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values

Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems

Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned

Ensure work area and equipment are clean, secure, and well maintained

Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required

Work Environment

Frequent exposure to fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration typical of a manufacturing/machine‑shop environment

Job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine‑shop environment

Overtime and weekend work will be required as needed

No travel is expected for this position

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to talk and hear

Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel

Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Regularly required to stand 7‑8 hours daily, sit, walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, and/or crouch, and move about the facility

May be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally up to 70 lbs.

Pay Range $25‑$33 per hour + Shift Differential (at Chaska, MN office location)
