$31,990.40 - $33,217.60 commensurate with experience
Work Hours:
Normal hours M-F 7:30am to 4:30pm but may vary depending on University need and some evening and weekend for special events.
Job Summary The Carpenter II position consists of carpentry work at the journeyman level in the construction, alternation, and repair of wooden structures and equipment. Carpenter IIs perform skilled hand and bench carpentry duties including the operation of woodworking machinery. Work assignments are received in oral or written form and may consist of sketches or plans. Supervision may be exercised over one or two unskilled workers and work is checked by supervisor while in progress for compliance to instructions.
Duties And Responsibilities
Performs general carpentry work as a skilled journeyman carpenter.
Repairs tables, chairs, benches, cupboards, counter tops, book shelves, and computer tables.
Performs limited cabinetmaker work to include building bookcases, cabinets, shelves, computer tables and related structures.
Performs skilled bench work in shop, operating power saws, jointers, wood lathes, planers, and boring, sanding and mortising machines.
Drives university vehicles in order to transport lumber, boards, tools and equipment to job sites. Unloads vehicle and carriers lumber, tools, etc.
Reads work orders, MSDS sheets, instructions for using and applying varnish, finish, and sealant; reads plans and drawings for buildings, and shop manuals for use and repair of equipment.
Repairs mechanical doors and locks.
Cleans and sharpens hand and bench tools. Files hand saws and other types of equipment.
Repairs roofs and replaces broken glass.
Constructs forms, pours and finishes concrete projects.
Operates a paint striping machine.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: Completion of high school or the GED and experience in carpentry or the completion of an apprenticeship in the trade.
A valid Alabama driver’s license at the time of appointment.
