Scope of Work As a Machinist, you will program, set-up, adjust, and operate manual and/or Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining center, lathes, and milling machines where set-up, detail and operating procedures are prescribed; manual machining involves special one-off parts or prototype parts.
Responsibilities
Perform tasks with moderate supervision
Study blueprints, sketches, drawings and specifications
Sample part to determine critical dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements
Take Engineering drawing and create programs from CNC machine tools
Determine the best possible procedure, set-up machine and proficiently operate manual and CNC machining and turning centers to achieve required specifications
Efficiently set-up and operate multiple CNC machining and turning centers producing high quality parts
Recall programs, determine edits and offsets and make modifications to programs as required
Constantly monitor parts production to ensure adherence to blueprint tolerances
Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines
Change and adjust tooling as required
Shape, sharpen, set cutter, and adjust own tools to achieve desired print tolerance
Set-up bore gauges and other inspection equipment
Inspect own work at each step (set-up) to enable timely continuance and ensure quality parts
Demonstrate excellent productivity on a large variety of complicated parts and offer creative/innovative machining, tooling and fixturing improvement solutions to supervision to reduce production costs and improve quality
Complete all required paperwork including labor reporting and documentation of quality control and material movement
Work safely and maintain the work area with high standards of housekeeping
Perform preventative maintenance activities on machinery and/or equipment operated
Perform the work in lower classifications when assigned (e.g., drills, saws, press brake), and assist in the work in higher classifications
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year experience
G.E.D. or High School Diploma
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
CNC programming experience
Knowledge and experience of machining practices and techniques
Basic mechanical principles
Shop mathematics
Blueprint reading
Measuring procedures-using precision measuring tools
Standing for long periods of time, bending, reaching sitting, medium to heavy lifting 25-100 pounds several times per day, visual acuity, and hand dexterity
Knowledge of Rottler Acu-Rite CNC controls
Forklift operation experience
Knowledge of boring machines
Working Conditions
Typical hours of work Monday through Friday; 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Weekend hours as necessary
