Summary Under basic supervision, performs semi‑skilled general labor work in repair and fabrication of structures in City parks for the Parks and Recreation Department (PRD); operates vehicles, equipment, and tools in compliance with all safety regulations and standard procedures.
Essential Functions
Performs general labor tasks to maintain, repair and construct safe, attractive, and user-friendly City park facilities; inspects facilities and equipment; duties may vary according to job assignment.
Performs park repair and fabrication tasks including carpentry, welding, and concrete; builds and repairs park facilities, structures, and components; estimates material requirements for projects; assists with setup and takedown for special events; maintains and operates tools and equipment according to PRD standards.
Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work‑related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED required. General maintenance, construction, or welding experience desired.
Knowledge Of
PRD safety policies and procedures, and federal and state building codes and safety regulations.
Materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in parks maintenance.
Skill In
Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
Reading blueprints, and following standard operating and safety procedures.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co‑workers.
License and Certification Requirements A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
Physical Demands and Working Environment Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and at City facilities; requires constant physical effort and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment. City‑approved safety shoes must be worn.
Salary $19.13 per hour
