Sterile Processing Tech - Central Sterile - Kings Hwy - Full Time

This role ensures the availability of cleaned, prepared, and sterilized equipment and supplies for surgical procedures. The employee functions as a resource for clinical knowledge and performs other duties as assigned by the sterile processing leadership. Responsibilities include receiving, cleaning, distributing, storing medical instruments and equipment, and supporting direct patient care in clinical, satellite operations, and operative suites.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Preferred Experience

2 years of sterile processing experience or graduation from an accepted course in sterile processing or surgical technology.

Preferred Certifications

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) – International Association Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM).

Certified Sterile Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) – Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) – CBSPD.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Clinical knowledge.

Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.

Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey pertinent information to patients or staff promptly.

Good organizational and time management skills.

Conflict resolution skills and good judgment in performing duties.

Adaptability to change in a positive, constructive manner.

Ability to work a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call) and travel between facilities.

Job Duties

Perform general and specialized instrument care duties.

Provide supplies as needed for surgical procedures.

Disassemble and clean critical reusable medical equipment in accordance with Manufacturer’s Instructions for Use (MIFU).

Inspect, package, and reassemble surgical instruments and trays according to established priority.

Practice high‑level disinfection, pre‑vacuum sterilization, gravity displacement sterilization, and hydrogen peroxide plasma sterilization techniques in accordance with MIFUs.

Maintain record keeping and document control as defined in Standard Operating Procedures, policies, and regulatory body recommendations.

Adapt communication to the specific patient population, ensuring privacy, obtaining permissions, and providing explanations of services or procedures.

Perform other related duties as required, including ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements.

Report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behavior; support patient and employee safety, privacy, and compliance initiatives.

Physical & Environmental Demands Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, with occasional greater than negligible force up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. The position requires walking or standing for significant periods, and may involve pushing or pulling materials at a production‑rate pace. Exposure to blood, body fluid, tissue, hazardous medications, and hazardous waste is inherent. Occupational risks for communicable diseases and exposure to hazardous substances in the healthcare setting are present.
