Race Technician (Tech 1) General Description Crown is seeking a highly motivated Race Technician to join our championship-level team supporting the build, preparation, and operation of high‑performance race cars. This role offers hands‑on involvement in both the shop and at the track, working alongside experienced professionals in a fast‑paced, detail‑driven motorsports environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about racing, thrives under pressure, and takes pride in precision, reliability, and continuous improvement. At Crown, you’ll help turn preparation into performance and performance into results.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Lunch Between Noon to 1:00 PM
Weekends and Overtime as needed
To Be Successful Success in this role requires a strong foundation in race car preparation, trackside support, and a willingness to continuously learn in a fast‑paced, team‑driven environment. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems common to club and professional race cars, along with familiarity in setup, data review, and race logistics. We value technicians who challenge themselves, take pride in precision and reliability, and perform under pressure. Success is defined by meticulous preparation, calm execution at the track, proactive problem‑solving, and consistently delivering safe, competitive results that exceed expectations.
Responsibilities
Prepare, maintain, and repair race vehicles including Radical SR3/SR10, LMP3, LMP2, Porsche, and other equivalent GT3, and GT4 cars to series and manufacturer standards
Perform trackside support including rapid diagnostics, component changes, and repairs under race conditions
Execute chassis setup changes: suspension geometry, corner weights, damper adjustments, ride heights, and alignment
Service and inspect powertrain systems including engines, gearboxes, clutches, driveline, cooling, and fuel systems
Maintain and troubleshoot braking systems, including pad/rotor changes, caliper service
Support data acquisition and analysis, assisting with sensor verification, system checks, and setup correlation
Follow and enforce technical regulations, safety requirements, and scrutineering compliance across multiple series
Manage race weekend logistics, including car prep, spares, and pit equipment
Document setup changes, service intervals, and component life tracking
Work closely with engineers and team leadership to optimize performance and reliability
Provide pit and paddock assistance for setup and teardown as needed
Assist with loading and unloading of truck
Keep a clean and orderly work station
Assist in shop maintenance and cleaning as required
Work on concrete, asphalt, unimproved surfaces outside, as needed at events
Keep up with industry trends through continued education
Maintain business paperwork for the client and the company
Skills and Qualifications
5 or more years experience as a race mechanic in club, professional racing, or endurance racing environments (IMSA, WEC, ELMS, or equivalent)
Hands‑on familiarity with Radical SR3/SR10, LMP3, LMP2, Porsche and other GT3, and GT4 race platforms
Strong mechanical expertise across suspension, braking, drivetrain, cooling, and fuel systems
Experience supporting long‑duration events, including night running, rapid repairs, and component life management
Proficiency with sequential and paddle‑shift gearboxes, clutch systems, and drivetrain service
Working knowledge of data and electronics systems (MoTeC, Bosch, AIM, Life, Cosworth) to support engineers trackside
Understanding of Radical Motorsports, IMSA, and WEC technical regulations, safety standards, and scrutineering processes
Ability to perform calmly and accurately under high‑pressure, time‑critical conditions
Strong organizational skills with disciplined documentation, spares control, and preventative maintenance
Willingness and physical capability to travel extensively and work extended race‑weekend hours
Shop fabrication equipment is provided, but you must supply your own hand tools
Ability to operate race necessary equipment
Ability to complete tasks within a deadline
Self‑motivation with a focus on delivering the highest level of customer satisfaction
Willingness gain necessary training by participating in seminars and classes
Flexibility to learn quickly in a fast‑growing environment with aggressive timelines
Clean driving record
Ability to lift 40 lbs without aid frequently and occasionally up to or over 50 lbs
A team‑oriented mindset with strong communication skills
Strong attention to detail, knowledge of safety practices
Software Tools Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Gmail)
