Overview

Cares for and reprocesses surgical instrumentation, including disassembly, decontamination, high‑level disinfection, sterilization, and assembly. Operates ultrasonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and other equipment. Completes quality monitoring and documentation, prepares case carts, manages inventory, and performs duties with a commitment to quality and customer service. May include day, evening, night, weekend, holiday, and on‑call hours. Responsibilities

Follow department procedures and manufacturer instructions to perform disassembly, inspection, and preparation for decontamination. Load and operate mechanical washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers; manually decontaminate and disinfect instruments as appropriate. Inspect clean instruments for damage and test for proper function and sharpness. Assemble instrument sets according to tray lists; replace missing instruments as required. Prepare instruments for sterilization using aseptic technique; package, mark, and review packaging integrity. Use biological, chemical, and process indicators; review logs and physical monitoring printouts to confirm cycle parameters. Picks supplies and instruments to prepare case carts and inspect packaging for damage and outdated items. Performs high‑level disinfection of endoscopes and operates automatic endoscope reprocessors. Answer telephone and respond to customers’ routine and urgent requests for supplies and case carts professionally and expediently. Notify department leadership of facility and equipment problems and submit work requests as needed. Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition; maintain a safe work environment. Maintain a working knowledge of all surgical instrumentation and instrument assembly software. Perform rounds to nearby clinical departments to deliver and retrieve sterile instrumentation. Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred. Certification through CBSPD or HSPA required within 12 months of hire. Driver’s license check and credit check (for qualifying positions). Background check (WI Caregiver or IL Health Care Workers). Must be able to follow written or oral instructions. Culture of Excellence Behavior Expectations
