Senior Technician, LRV Electro-Mechanical Summary The full pay range is $29.96 to $44.94 per hour with an anticipated starting rate between entry ($32.00) and midpoint ($34.36) of the range. A hiring bonus of $5,000.00 is offered. Shift differential is available for 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Eligibility & Qualifications Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented with coursework in electronic technology or a closely related study, and at least three (3) years of experience in electronics and electrical troubleshooting of multi‑component systems, basic networking, and maintenance/repair of electro‑mechanical systems or heavy‑duty transportation maintenance equipment. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree in electronic/electrical engineering technology from a two‑year Technical College or institute.

Experience working with electronic, electrical and mechanical systems in rail vehicles, aircraft, or semiconductor manufacturing.

Interpret electrical/electronic schematics.

HVAC Certification.

Work Schedule & Safety Requirements Must be available to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and odd/unusual hours; may be called in on day‑off or respond to emergencies. The position requires successful qualification to operate rail vehicles and passing of the Rail Vehicle Operator Safety Training. Employment is contingent upon a physical examination, a successful background investigation, and successful completion of the Valley Metro RPTA Drug & Alcohol Program. A valid Arizona driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

Performs inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting on all electronic, electrical and mechanical systems for rail vehicles and related equipment.

Operates diagnostic test equipment and solves complex equipment malfunctions.

Performs safety and preventive maintenance inspections on rail vehicles and related equipment.

Repairs HVAC, propulsion, brake, door, auxiliary power, and communication systems.

Performs rebuild of electrical/electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic system components.

Reads and interprets electrical and pneumatic schematics to troubleshoot issues; performs chart recording interpretation.

Responds to off‑site emergencies.

Uses a variety of shop equipment and tools for maintenance and repair of rail vehicles.

Complies with all safety policies and procedures, attends safety training, and participates in ongoing training.

Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used.

Assists in cross‑training others.

May perform other duties assigned to the shop.

Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a rail vehicle maintenance and repair program; AC/DC electrical systems; principles of analog and digital electronics; electronic control circuitry; HVAC, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems; current methods, equipment, tools and materials used in the inspection, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of rail vehicles; preventive maintenance techniques; principles of electrical, electronic and mechanical theory; occupational hazards and safety practices; basic computer operation and networking. Skill in maintenance repair, troubleshooting, rebuild, and overhaul of rail transit vehicles and subsystems; analyzing malfunctions; diagnosing repair needs; safety inspection; record preparation; interpreting operating and repair manuals.

Physical Demands / Work Environment Typical duties include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, lifting (up to 50 lbs routinely, up to 100 lbs with assistance), and repetitive motions. Work is performed in a shop and outdoor environments with exposure to heat, cold, electrical hazards, vibrations, chemicals, grease, oil, dust, fumes, gases, and noise.
