Full-Time
role, shift 2nd. Telework not available. Requires U.S. citizenship and interim clearance. Travel up to 10%.
The Role Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, and drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations and preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided (trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency), and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses a personal computer to perform analyses and develop documentation and reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis. This position is on‑site in Newport News, Virginia, and will transition to a backshift schedule after successful qualification and completion of the Steam Electric Plant course curriculum.
Must Have
Associate’s Degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
Equivalent qualifications may include:
NNS Apprentice School graduate.
Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate.
High School/GED + 2 years of related manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, or military experience.
High School/GED + 4 years of non‑related manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, or military experience.
Nice to Have
Experience with VCS/Columbia Class New Construction, developing and executing Navy Work Authorization Forms (WAFs), safety tagout documents, and specifications.
Training and qualification on all work control and tagout processes, and responsibility to approve issuance of WAFs, work permits, and safety tagouts for assigned systems.
Expertise in the development, planning, and scheduling for WAFs, work permits, and safety tagout, and on‑site resolution of related problems and technical issues to prevent delays and ensure safe work and testing.
In-depth knowledge of NAVSEA 0905‑485‑6010 Submarine 6010 requirements, Submarine Fly‑By‑Wire Ship Control System Certification Boundary Book, and Submarine Certification Boundary Book.
