What You Will Do As a
CEI Bridge and Roadway Inspector , you will play a vital role in overseeing transportation construction projects, ensuring quality, compliance, and safety through field inspections, monitoring contractor activities, conducting material testing, and maintaining detailed documentation.
Project Oversight & Field Inspection: Monitor daily construction activities—including land clearing, grading, paving, bridge work, and traffic control—to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
Material Sampling & Testing: Collect construction material samples and perform basic field tests to ensure adherence to project specifications and quality requirements.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate inspection logs, prepare daily reports, track project progress, and document contractor payment details and any nonconformities.
Regulatory & Environmental Compliance: Inspect erosion control devices, review environmental measures, and ensure compliance with permits, DBE, and EEO requirements.
Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration: Attend progress and safety meetings, interact with contractors, engineers, and client representatives, and provide timely updates on project status.
Who We're Looking For Detail-oriented professionals who take pride in quality and safety, enjoy working outdoors, and have experience with transportation or civil construction projects, especially roadway and bridge inspection. Strong communication skills, the ability to interpret plans, and proficiency in documentation are essential.
Qualifications
Education: One of the following combinations: High school diploma/GED and 4+ years of highway-related construction or inspection experience
2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years of highway-related construction experience
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Engineering Technology
Certifications: WV TRET Certification or the ability to obtain it within 6 months
Key Competencies: Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
Strong math skills and understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Working outdoors in varying weather conditions for the majority of the time
Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day)
Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
Exposure to highway traffic and heavy machinery
Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
