Position Overview With surgical precision the Ingalls First-Class Pipewelders seal together the vital piping networks supplying our ships with chemicals, steam, ventilation, heating and cooling systems. Our Pipe Welders are among the best in the world and stand out in their field. Job Description An Ingalls Pipewelder is responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on stainless steel and copper-nickel pipe using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. The role includes working with various metal materials and welding processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW). The shipyard environment is an around-the-clock manufacturing setting. Shipyard production areas involve working at different heights, confined spaces, varying weather conditions, and multiple shifts 24 hours a day. Welders may be required to work day or night depending on ship construction schedule. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures and meetings, exceeding industry standards.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of pipewelding experience.
Must have experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also known as “stick welding.”
Preferred Qualifications
Mississippi Tech Master Certification.
