This is a part-time position with anticipated work hours of 10-15 hours per week, to be completed anytime between Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. The applicant selected can choose their preferred workdays. Hours can be completed over the course of two days or spread out incrementally throughout the work week. Theparalegal/legal assistantis responsible forthe following: Respondingto K-12 legalquestions froma variety of stakeholders,including school district representatives,governmental agencies,teachers,legislators, and advocates. Assistingwith the preparation and coordination of rulemaking activities, including compiling public comments, drafting rulemaking notices and agendas,editingand filing rules, and preparing materials forthe Joint Committee for Government Operations in the TN legislature. SupportingtheGCin preparingrules and policiesforBoard meetingsand other legal proceedings. Conducting legal research on K-12 education matters as requested by the GC. Trackingdeadlines,rulemakinghearing schedules, and regulatory timelines to ensure compliancewith applicable laws and procedures. Providingadministrativeassistance, including: Scheduling meetings for the GC and legal team; Processing travel and expense reports; Filinglegal documents; Respondingtopublic requests to speak atBoard meetings; EnsuringBoardmembersand staff complete annual compliance forms; Procuring itemsrequiredby the legal team; Printing and mailing SBE documents; Booking meeting rooms for team events; Assistingwith scheduling and hosting Webex meetings for the Board’s leadership team; Compiling and organizing binders for Board meetings and administrative hearings Drafting, proofreading, and formattinglegal documents, including rules, orders, memoranda, contracts, and correspondence. Maintainingand organizinglegal team electronic filesin accordance withstate retention and confidentiality requirements. Perform other duties as assigned to support the work of the Office of General Counsel. RequiredQualifications Candidatesmusthave: Anassociate or bachelor’sdegree. Aparalegalcertificationorat least two years of experience as aparalegal, legal assistant, or in a similar role. Impeccable editing skills, includingextraordinaryattention to detailandthe ability to review legalteam documents forspelling, stylistic, and grammatical errors. Ability to work independently andmanage multiple projects simultaneously. A demonstratedabilityto meet and exceedexpectations. A commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards in handling sensitive information. Strong written and oral communication skills. PreferredQualifications We prefer candidates with: Ability to conduct legal research. Proficiencyinlegal research tools(e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis). Strong understanding of legal terminology, research methods, and administrative procedures. Experienceworking in or with K-12 schools. Experience working for the state of Tennessee. Understanding of Uniform Administrative Procedures Act. Qualifications

Paralegal or Legal Assistant

to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least

two years of experience

in a law firm or attorney’s office handling

civil litigation . Candidates with some college experience, preferably graduates of a

Paralegal program , are strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities: Draft legal pleadings using templates or by referencing example pleadings. File legal documents with the court and coordinate with court clerk offices. Prepare and send service copies via certified mail and arrange for process servers when necessary. Schedule court reporters for hearings and trials. Assist in trial preparation, including assembling exhibits and witness lists. Organize and maintain both physical and electronic legal files. Work with databases and spreadsheets to track case details, updates, and resolutions. Conduct legal research and gather case-related information, ensuring accuracy in documentation. Communicate professionally with internal and external parties to obtain case information. Required Skills & Qualifications: Strong organizational skills

with keen attention to detail. Proficiency in Excel

and ability to manage spreadsheets efficiently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills , including the ability to draft clear, concise emails and legal documents. Customer service skills , maintaining professionalism in all interactions. Ability to proofread and ensure accuracy in all written work. Strong time management skills , including task prioritization and email organization. Ability to

adapt to changing workloads and deadlines

while maintaining efficiency. Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive legal documents. Attend staff meetings and actively contribute to discussions. Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervising attorneys. On-site position

(not remote) – required to work in-office

five days per week . Must be

self-motivated
