Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of the Principal or his/her designee, the Office Technician (OT) provides clerical support to the Principal, Vice Principal and other education staff. The OT processes, stores, and retrieves information utilizing word processing, database, and spreadsheet computer applications.

To meet the criteria for monthly Incarcerated person, Pay, the OT must supervise a minimum of 2 incarcerated workers, who substantially replace civil service employees for a combined total of at least 120 hours per month. The OT must attach a letter to the monthly CDCR 998-A, Employee Attendance Record, certified by a supervisor indicating that the criteria were met, allowing the Personnel Office to proceed with the monthly Incarcerated person Pay. CDCR 998-A’s submitted without the required certification will result in discontinuation of the incentive. Employees receiving Incarcerated person Pay are responsible for retention of incarcerated worker timesheets at each worksite. When incarcerated people are unassigned, it is the OT's responsibility to contact the Incarcerated Person Assignments Office to have workers assigned to meet the criteria. If the criteria is not met, the OT is not entitled to receive Incarcerated person Pay and must notify the Personnel Office immediately. In order to reinstate the Incarcerated person Pay, the OT must notify the Personnel Office as soon as the criteria is met.

This is a 12 month Limited Term position that may be extended to 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

Special Requirements

The position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications. The candidate must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming their ability to meet the minimum typing speed prior to being hired. Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment, followed by annual TB testing/evaluation thereafter.

Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency. Foreign education credential evaluation services can be found at NACES | National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

Salary posted is the base pay for the classification; various salary ranges may be included. A final salary placement will be made at the time of appointment.
