Description Girls Softball Coach – 7th/8th Grade

Season:

March – May 2026

Practices and games:

After school Monday-Friday and occasional Saturdays

Description:

The softball coach reports directly to the Community Education Youth Development Coordinator and the Head Varsity Softball Coach. The 7th & 8th Grade Girls Softball Coach is responsible to those individuals for the proper interpretation and performance of the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Supervises the participants enrolled in the program during practices and games.

Attend all practices and games during the season including both home and away games.

Assist athletes in developing and improving softball skills including but not limited to fielding, hitting, pitching and throwing.

Assess athletes’ softball skills to determine areas in need of improvement.

Develop ways to assist beginner and younger athletes in learning softball terminology and skills.

Identify the best learning styles for each student and adapt coaching methods accordingly.

Provide a secure and productive learning environment for athletes.

Communication with athletes in a respectful, encouraging manner.

Communicate, manage, and work with 7th-8th grade athletes of various softball backgrounds and skill levels.

Develop a daily practice plan for each practice session.

Develop lineups and player utilization plans prior to each game.

Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills. A background of coaching at the Junior High level or higher is preferred. Coaching certification preferred.

Candidates should:

Have proven experience working as a softball coach

Previous softball/baseball playing experience

Understand the rules of softball

Be able to collaborate with the Varsity Softball Coach to meet the long-term needs of the Softball program

Skills and Abilities:

Sound knowledge of various coaching techniques

The ability to motivate students

Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Exceptional communication and customer service skills

First Aid and CPR certification preferred

Physical Demands:

Able to lift 50 pounds and move equipment needed for the program

Compensation Range:

$1,500 – $2,000 Season Stipend
