General Definition and Conditions of Work
Perform skilled technical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of town trucks, vehicles and equipment.
Duties include disassembling engines, transmissions, or other similar units to inspect parts for wear; repairing or replacing parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, bearings, and hydraulics. Conduct inspections and participate in a preventive maintenance program to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all town vehicles and related equipment.
Education, Experience and Licenses
Completion of a standard high school course, or equivalent GED program.
Vocational or technical certification in the mechanic field, electrical, air and hydraulic systems, small engine repair, metal fabrication, and shop maintenance preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a mechanic preferred.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Possession of a valid commercial driver's license A, or the ability to obtain one within one (1) year.
Possession of a valid Virginia State Inspection Sticker License, or the ability to obtain one within one (1) year.
This position will remain open until filled.
