Essential Responsibilities

Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective mechanical maintenance at all generation facilities with minimal supervision.

Troubleshoot and diagnose failures; disassemble, repair, replace, reassemble, install, or test equipment to restore full operating condition.

Initiate and complete work orders and documentation on a routine basis.

Take proactive measures to address improvement opportunities and anticipate recurring problems.

Use machine‑related tools (hydraulic, pneumatic, gas, electrical) and specialized equipment to perform semi‑to‑skilled industrial maintenance safely.

Operate forklifts, man‑lifts, skid‑steer loaders, and other mobile equipment; handle on‑ and off‑road vehicles.

Perform bench‑work repairs to maintain equipment spare‑parts inventory.

Other Responsibilities

Perform routine housekeeping duties and building maintenance tasks to keep shop and work areas clean and orderly.

Support Sunflower’s mission and operations by completing tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma and four years of heavy industrial mechanical maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Vocational degree, certificate, or college coursework in a related industrial field is preferred.

Strong troubleshooting skills using sound mechanical logic, practices, and procedures.

Ability to understand and interpret prints, sketches, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and P&ID information.

Knowledge of coal‑fired and/or gas‑fired generation units and associated equipment, systems, and components is preferred.

Successful completion of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills at the level required to perform essential responsibilities.

Valid driver’s license; able to travel to all Sunflower sites and attend out‑of‑state training and meetings as needed.

Regular and prompt attendance; ability to work overtime (scheduled or unscheduled) and respond to emergency situations.

Career Progression Employees are expected to progress through prescribed training to reach level IV, a condition of employment, in accordance with training standards for the craft of Mechanic I‑IV.
