Engineering Technician II
The Engineering Technician II will perform standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations, follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments. Technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may be reviewed in progress. Engineering Technicians work in indoor and outdoor test areas, test stands, laboratories, chambers, machine shops, cold and hot weather environments, heights, and confined spaces. They may work with or around Cryogenics (Liquid Hydrogen, Liquid Oxygen, Liquid Nitrogen, Liquid Helium), Gaseous Hydrogen, Gaseous Oxygen, Gaseous Nitrogen, Gaseous Helium, high pressure systems, hypergols, solid propellants, explosives, other toxic, confined space, cleanliness standards and operations, electrical instrumentation and controls systems and components associated with hazardous operations, mechanical systems and components associated with hazardous operations, safety critical equipment (lifts, and moves), specialized equipment, large and/or complex facilities, test stands, equipment, special test equipment, and test articles, specialized handing, transportation, operation of one of a kind test articles and associated components. The technician will perform one or a combination of such typical duties as: Assemble or construct standard equipment or parts following specific instructions. Service and repair simple instruments or equipment as directed. Conduct a variety of tests using established methods and operate test equipment. Prepare test specimens and accurately record and verify test data. Identify deviations caused by equipment issues or observational errors. Extract and process engineering data using defined algebraic and geometric methods. Present processed data in prescribed formats for engineering review. Operate within specialized, unique, "one of a kind," and/or hazardous research and test facilities, test stands, laboratories, chambers, equipment, and are required to have highly specialized skills that in many cases can only be obtained through specialized training, “on the job” work experience, and certification(s). Minimum Qualifications
US Citizenship required. Candidate must have at least 2 years of relevant experience. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a NASA public trust. Physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, include: lifting up to 40 lbs, bending, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs/ladders, pulling cables/wires. Must use proper PPE for all tasks. Must be able to provide semi-professional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement. Candidate must have some practical knowledge of science or engineering. Must be able to communicate with peers, supervisors and customers. Candidate must be able to work independently or in a team.
