Recruitment Range : $47,263 – $52,514

Position Summary Under general supervision, perform journey‑level work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel, and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, steam, sewage, and perform all other related work as required.

This position is required to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace, and test plumbing systems; assemble, install and repair pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures; cut, thread, and weld pipes; assemble and install valves; inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; inspect related work performed by contractors; estimate cost, time, and materials for plumbing projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of a plumbing shop; clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Experience in the trade area related to the assignment may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.

Some positions may require special licenses or certifications.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

Valid NC Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

Plumbing and backflow license preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks

Maintain, repair, and install plumbing and related fixtures and components.

Review work orders assigned and prioritize work; perform routine tasks; check work for accuracy before and during completion.

Schedule repairs to minimize interruption in occupied areas.

Consult with customers about service needs; analyze potential problems.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of departmental operations; promote teamwork.

Perform tasks with appropriate personal protective equipment; diagnose and remedy malfunctioning systems.

Make safety recommendations and advice management of potential hazards.

Inspect systems, equipment, and components for defects and compliance with national, state, and local codes.

Test systems and fixtures to ensure compatibility and safety.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, staff, faculty, contractors, and campus partners.

Interact with customers clearly and concisely to convey information.

Respond promptly to various work orders involving plumbing and related systems in residence halls and other campus facilities.

Safety and Health Compliance : Identify and resolve safety risks; promote safe work practices; recommend protective equipment.

Physical Effort & Work Environment Hand movement, grasping, lifting (up to 90+ lbs), climbing, etc. Work includes roof maintenance, use of ladders, and exposure to hazardous conditions such as fumes, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.

On‑call/Call‑backs; Overtime as needed.

Staffing and Employment Details

Full‑time, 12 months per year, 1.0 FTE.

Salary: $47,263 – $52,514

Recruitment Range: $47,263 – $52,514 (Non‑Exempt)

Salary will be determined based on competencies, equity, budget, and market considerations.
