Asphalt Raker is an hourly‑rated skilled craft position that assists with the application of asphalt on highways, private roadways, parking lots, and driveways using handheld tools.
Responsibilities
Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.
Responsible for the finished product while enforcing proper safety and traffic precautions.
Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material.
Distribute and rake asphalt material used in construction, repair and resurfacing.
Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to the road surface.
Repair utility cuts by removing temporary material and replacing with permanent hot asphalt material.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Work Context
Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects using abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time.
Requires good manual dexterity and multi‑limb coordination.
Must possess a good degree of stamina, as they often stand for long shifts with few breaks.
Noise level is generally loud.
Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
Often work long and odd hours, day or night, in extreme heat or cold.
