GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under supervision, perform labor in construction, maintenance, operations, and installation of Public Works and Public Utilities.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Functions
Serve as laborer making sewer pipe taps, repairs and installation of pipes and manholes.
Maintain facility, paint, mow, lay brick, and cement, minor building construction work.
Responsible for minor repairs and maintenance of equipment and vehicle.
Use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly, wear protective equipment when needed.
Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions, keep written records, make reports, communicate with the public and other agencies, strong sense of customer service.
Count parts and assist in inventory, clean around city facilities, collects samples, repair, and post signs, load brush.
Work in trenches and confined spaces.
Assist in cleaning sludge drying beds when needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma with one (1) year minimum experience required in a related field.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to demonstrate proper techniques and uses of a variety of hand tools and power tools.
Ability to read addresses, signs, and directions.
Skill in good interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with a wide range of people.
Skill in dependability through good attendance and adhere to timelines and schedules.
Ability to take initiative in development and completion of projects.
Physical Requirements The work in this position classifies the physical exertion requirements as heavy work involving lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
Visual ability: sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including copier, computer, etc.; and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
Hearing ability: sufficient to hold a conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone; and to hear recording on transcription device.
Speaking ability: sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over the telephone.
Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
WORK ENVIRONMENT May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace.
