Gear Cutting Machine Operator A – 71908 Portland, Oregon Boeing Commercial Airplanes $31.32/hour, up to $59.47/hour Responsibilities
Obtain assignments from Daily Dispatch List or supervisor. Review work orders, drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements. Set up, operate, and adjust gear cutting, shaping, and grinding machines (CNC and conventional). Use precision measuring instruments and gauges to check finish and dimensions. Select and secure appropriate tools, fixtures, and attachments. Perform layout work and sequence operations using shop mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry. Monitor machine setups and check for missing or damaged equipment before operation. Operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment to move parts and materials. Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment (dress grinding wheels, sharpen cutting tools). Conduct test runs and make adjustments to meet specifications before production runs. Document work performed, quantities, and any discrepancies; communicate with supervisors regarding job status. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations and MSDS. Collaborate with internal and external organizations to resolve issues and improve production processes. Maintain personal and tool certifications to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. Suggest improvements to production methods and processes to enhance efficiency and quality. Qualifications
3+ years of experience in gear cutting or machining. 5+ years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints and detailed work instructions. 5+ years of experience using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators). Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 35 pounds. 3+ years of experience with CNC mill and lathe machines (preferred). Associate degree in machine tool technology or equivalent (preferred). High school graduate or GED preferred. Physical Demands
Lifting 10-35 pounds. Reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, squatting. Contact with metals, solvents, and coolants. Operating near moving parts, sharp cutters, and slipping hazards. Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions. Use personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet. Export Control
