Description The Estimator II is responsible for preparing work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. The role identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying these documents and computes costs by analyzing those requirements.

Responsibilities

Resolve all pricing options and target the appropriate price for the project.

Identify areas for training with estimators and interns.

Gather information from local government and private entities that may affect the project (i.e., permits, hearings, etc.).

Assist in leading addendum log and documents from customers/clients.

Complete quantity takeoffs and summations of materials.

Solicit trade partners, obtain bid estimates, and time projections for preparing vendor proposal comparisons and estimate summary sheets.

Provide assistance to data input into estimating software program(s).

Build Project Estimates.

Prepare, organize, and coordinate Request for Proposal documents.

Prepare, and coordinate schedules, utilizing schedule information to estimate General Contractor’s and other scheduled items.

Participate in plan and estimate review meetings, other project review meetings, and site investigations, as needed.

Solicit new bidders when needed and obtain necessary documents for inclusion in future projects.

Capture historical cost data and perform archive filing.

Assists in providing details for order entry, drafting, production and layout of orders received.

Correspond with sales reps to obtain missing information, recommend changes or substitutions to improve cost, delivery, or product.

Interpret customer requirements and prepare and revise quotations based on takeoffs, emails, and specifications.

Interact with sales reps and internal personnel to provide accurate bidding.

Work from emails, takeoffs, drawings, bid forms, verbal and written requests to prepare quotes.

Report directly to the department supervisor.

Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Provide technical product support to designers and customers as related to the quotes.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Possess strong mathematical and computer skills; proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

Ability to breakdown construction operations into a logical sequence of activities.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Ability to professionally communicate the basis for individual work product when in a highly fast‑paced environment.

Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Must be willing to travel as needed.

Candidates must possess a strong work ethic.

Strong organizational, interpersonal skills.

Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Administration preferred.

3 to 5 years of estimating experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

Required to stand, walk, and sit.

Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.

Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls.

Reach with hands and arms.

Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
