Job Description

As a compactor technician, you will play a vital role in the maintenance and repair of compactors and balers used for waste management, big‑box stores, and multi‑tenant facilities. You will diagnose and repair trash compactors, including electrical and hydraulic components, and may also perform site repairs such as bailers, tarps, and chutes. When site work is limited, you may be asked to work in the shop assembling units or performing mechanical or welding tasks. Standard hours are 6:00‑3:30 with overtime and on‑call required.

This is a REMOTE opportunity; you will not be required to report to an office but will be dispatched to calls from your home.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and identify issues with compactors accurately and quickly

Weld and perform mechanical repairs as needed

Use diagnostic tools for repairs and maintenance

Understand compactor operations and troubleshoot effectively

Lift heavy equipment and perform physical tasks related to mechanical repairs

Keep accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities

Provide detailed reports before and after repairs

Apply creative problem‑solving skills to complex issues

Clean, lubricate, and perform preventative maintenance on compactors

Diagnose electrical problems and repair PLC systems

Adhere to safety protocols and regulations

Communicate clearly with customers, colleagues, and supervisors

Prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance

Inspect, repair, and test equipment thoroughly

Adapt to different types of machines (compactors, balers, chutes)

Keep up to date with industry advancements and new technologies

Train and mentor junior technicians in compactor maintenance and repair

Assemble power units in the shop

Participate in training sessions with other technicians

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age

Valid Driver’s License

Experience as a compactor technician or similar role

Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and electrical components

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics

Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Flexibility to adapt to changing work environment and schedules

Willingness to learn new techniques and machines while keeping up with industry standards

Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when representing the company

Uphold a high standard of ethics and integrity

Adherence to all safety protocols and procedures

Patience and professionalism in stressful situations

Minimal air travel during the training phase
