We are seeking a highly skilled
CNC Engineer Technician (Prototyping & Tooling Design)
with strong expertise in prototyping, tooling design, and precision machining. This role blends hands‑on CNC machine operation with creative problem‑solving in tooling development, fixturing, and rapid iteration. You will work closely with engineering teams to translate early‑stage concepts into high‑quality prototype parts and production‑ready tooling solutions.
This is an ideal role for a machinist who enjoys building unique parts, improving designs, and collaborating directly with engineers and manufacturing teams.
This is an onsite position.
Duties and Responsibilities CNC Machining & Prototyping
Program, set up, and operate CNC mills, lathes, wire EDM to produce precision prototype components.
Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and design intent to create one‑off or low‑volume parts.
Select appropriate tools, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies to optimize quality and efficiency.
Perform quick‑turn machining on evolving designs requiring adaptability and engineering collaboration.
Tooling & Fixturing Design
Design and manufacture custom tooling, fixtures, jigs, and workholding solutions to support both prototype and limited production needs.
Collaborate with manufacturing and design engineers to develop and refine tooling concepts.
Implement improvements to tooling ergonomics, repeatability, accuracy, and safety.
CAD/CAM & Programming
Create and edit CNC programs using CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360, Mastercam, NX, or similar).
Import and manipulate 3D CAD files to generate toolpaths.
Verify toolpaths using simulation to prevent collisions and ensure manufacturability.
Quality & Documentation
Perform in‑process inspection and final part verification using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, or other precision tools.
Maintain documentation for prototype runs, tooling revisions, and machining parameters.
Support DFM feedback for engineering teams.
Shop Support & Continuous Improvement
Maintain a clean, organized, and safety‑focused work environment.
Monitor machine condition and coordinate maintenance as needed.
Recommend process improvements, equipment upgrades, and tooling enhancements.
Contribute to standardizing prototyping workflows and machining best practices.

Education, Experience and Certifications (and/or Requirements)
Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Machine Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, or a related technical field required.
5+ years of CNC machining experience (mills, lathes, or 5‑axis preferred) after completing your degree.
Strong background in prototype machining and quick‑turn environments.
Experience designing and machining custom tools, fixtures, and workholding.
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software for toolpath creation.
Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and engineering documentation.
Strong understanding of machining materials (aluminum, steels, plastics, etc.).
Skills and Abilities Preferred
HAAS or FANUC CNC certifications preferred.
Experience supporting R&D or new product development teams.
Familiarity with CNC machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
Experience with metrology tools and/or CMM inspection.
Welding, fabrication, or manual machine experience.
Ability to collaborate directly with mechanical engineers on manufacturability improvements.
Role Classification and Working Conditions This is an hourly, non‑exempt level position. This position typically works in a production/assembly/engineering lab environment. Overtime may be required.
Physical/Other Requirements
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to travel, as needed, by plane, automobile, etc.
